Digital Photography Semester Course
1 semester (1/2 credit)
grades 9-12
Course prerequisite: successful completion of the basic level Computer Graphics.
This is a studio-based course that focuses on digital photography and imaging. This course builds on previous Computer Graphics knowledge while introducing digital photography skills which will allow students to explore the combination of mediums. Students will learn how to use a digital SLR camera; technical fundamentals as well as the creative and experimental techniques as they relate to both realistic and abstract images. The basic elements of design and composition will be taught with an emphasis on developing the student's own creative point of view. Other technical aspects including; file types, importance of resolution, proper image sizing, color correction and various techniques to improve or manipulate one's work. Students will be instructed on a variety of hands-on exercises, assignments and techniques to develop a body of work demonstrating their course knowledge. Ideally, students should have their own digital SLR camera. In the event the student does not, a camera can be provided but supplies are limited.

Digital Photography Portfolio Prep. (Year Long Course)
Full year (1 credit)
grades 10-12
Course prerequisite: Students must complete basic Computer Graphics and one semester of Photography (Digital or Film) with final grades of 90% or higher in each course prior to consideration and enrollment AND/OR complete a Portfolio Review with instructor that meets all technical skill requirements.
This is a full year digital photography course intended for serious photography students. The elements of art and principles of design will be expanded on with emphasis on developing the student's own creative point of view. This class primarily focuses on the area of Breadth, to develop, explore and build a firm foundation in digital photography skills, while also providing an opportunity for students to choose an area of concentration, based upon a personally authentic, thematic and conceptual work. Students will create and maintain a web based, digital portfolio to professionally showcase their artwork and demonstrate course knowledge. Coursework is balanced between in-class student work and out-of-class work. Ideally, students should have their own digital SLR camera. In the event the student does not, a camera can be provided but supplies are limited.
